Marilyn - I think that whatever best shows the puppy's personality is a good idea. I like videos and REALLY like reading something special about a puppy. Giving them a name and sharing a story is very effective in my opinion.
You sent me a video clip of Reggie running back and forth chasing a toy on the little teeter totter you made to test agility prospects. That was great information for me and I still have that video! It showed that he was toy motivated, could handle repetition without getting bored, was not afraid of motion, was not afraid of the sound of the board hitting the deck and liked working with you. I hadn't decided for sure and was actually debating whether or not I should try to find an 8 week old puppy because I was afraid I had missed some crucial weeks in his development, might not bond, etc. (And yes, I can laugh about that now. We have bonded just fine and all of those qualities meant he was a great agility prospect.)
What sealed the deal, was when we were talking on the phone and you told me a story about him. You put the puppies outside in an x-pen and put some type of screening on top because there was a big bird flying around and you were afraid it might swoop down and grab a puppy. You got back inside the house and looked out the window. Here was Reggie pulling down the screen and trying to use it as a ramp to escape! (You knew it was him because you groomed him for pictures you sent me.) That was it. I knew then that I HAD to have that puppy, cancelled Easter dinner and made the 10 hour drive to your place to get him. That story told me he was not only brave, but also a thinker and athletic. My perfect little agility dog :) And I have told that story over and over again when someone asks me where I found him.
